senseFly Battery Care and Safety

A comprehensive guide to proper care and safety practices for senseFly eBee batteries.

By Richard Andrews

This guide outlines the proper care and safety practices for senseFly eBee batteries.

Battery Safety Basics

Lithium polymer (LiPo) batteries require careful handling to ensure safety and longevity. Following these guidelines will help you get the most out of your eBee batteries while maintaining safe operations.

Storage Guidelines

  • Store batteries at room temperature (15-25°C / 59-77°F)
  • Keep batteries at storage charge level (approximately 50-60% capacity)
  • Use LiPo-safe storage bags or containers
  • Store away from flammable materials
  • Check battery levels every 3 months during long-term storage

Charging Best Practices

  • Only use approved senseFly chargers
  • Never leave batteries charging unattended
  • Charge on a fire-resistant surface
  • Do not charge immediately after flight (allow batteries to cool)
  • Stop charging if battery becomes hot or swells

Pre-Flight Checks

Before each flight:

  • Inspect batteries for physical damage, swelling, or deformation
  • Verify battery charge level is appropriate for planned mission
  • Ensure battery contacts are clean and undamaged
  • Check that battery fits securely in the drone

Warning Signs

Stop using a battery immediately if you notice:

  • Swelling or puffing
  • Physical damage or punctures
  • Unusual heat during charging or use
  • Significantly reduced flight times
  • Failure to hold charge

Disposal

When batteries reach end of life:

  • Discharge to safe level before disposal
  • Never dispose of in regular trash
  • Take to appropriate battery recycling facility
  • Follow local regulations for LiPo battery disposal
